Breakfast for Dinner is a 3-spread newsprint publication that tells the stories of night shift workers.

Our first issue is dedicated to Olympia Saunders, a janitorial staff member working on the CMU University campus.

Who is Olympia?Olympia was one of the first friendly faces our group met when we were freshmen just entering college.

We wanted to know more Olympia as a human being: who she was both inside and outside of work. When we realized there was so much to cover, and it was a balancing act to figure out what parts to let go and what to keep in order to tell a coherent narrative.

We wanted to turn this publication into a gift for her to show our appreciation for the work she does for us.

This is Olympia.

Her affinity for dolphin collectibles.

Daily instagram posts.

Olympia with her family.

Mimicking her voice through typeThe visual language we developed for this publication is heavily inspired by the way Olympia talks and how we feel around Olympia.

We wanted the illustration style to feel hand-drawn and intimate, because Olympia has always been friendly and kind to us, always extending a helping hand when a student needs help in the middle of a difficult project.

When typesetting, we wanted to bring out Olympia’s mannerisms.

From the way she gasps to the moments where she goes off on tangents, We captured as much as we could by being playful with the text and structuring our columns to include small tid bits on Olympia’s daily happenings.
